I. Proposal Overview(Your school name) is seeking (dollar amount) from (organization name) to support our participation in a Youth Frontiers (type; i.e. Courage, Kindness, Respect) Retreat. The Youth Frontiers programs teach students how to incorporate the timeless values of K, C, and R into their daily lives through these dynamic and meaningful retreats. II. Organization DescriptionYouth Frontiers delivers programs that improve school climate and strengthen student character in schools throughout the nation. For twenty years, Youth Frontiers has been helping schools build the character of young people and honor educators by providing powerful and meaningful programs that focus on the timeless values of kindness, courage, and respect. During the 2006/07 school year, Youth Frontiers held over 590 retreats serving nearly 90,000 students and educators. III. Program DescriptionA retreat is more than ordinary day of learning. After twenty years of experience, these retreats have been designed to have the greatest possible impact. The retreat includes a variety of activities that emphasize the value being taught that day. During large group activities, music and singing add levity and communicate important messages while encouraging student participation. Interactive games are also scattered throughout the day to break down barriers, increase trust, and encourage teamwork. In addition to large group mixers and presentations, there are several small group activities. Throughout the day, small groups of five to six students and a volunteer leader discuss issues surrounding the retreat topic. Each retreat consists of 20-30 volunteer student leaders from the community who work with an average of six students each. Leaders are juniors and seniors in high school as well as adults from the community. These older students and adults serve as role models to the younger students. Last year more than 5,000 student volunteer leaders enhanced young peoples' experiences at Youth Frontiers retreats. The retreat closing is often the most powerful event of the day. Each participant is given the opportunity to share thoughts the day, and how they plan to incorporate the value into their daily lives IV. Explain Purpose or NeedExplain why you feel a Youth Frontiers retreat is an important experience for your students.
